Knitting: New + Easier Yarn Poms

Here is a MUCH easier way to do your yarn poms rather than the circle template technique - I wish I'd have figured this out ages ago! Happy pom'ing!

Weddings: Traditions

Good morning my lovelies, and happy Monday! I came across this image on Pinterest the other day and I absolutely love the idea of branding your love at your ceremony! Not to mention it's perfect for those of us that want a little bit of country in our weddings (uh, ME!) or those that want something a little different than other traditions.

Friday Etsy Picks: Flower Crowns

Forest Lore Natural Vine Crown
{ via Which Goose }

Lately I haven't been able to take my mind off of floral headpieces and crowns. This piece is totally dreamy and would make an incredible veil-replacement or a statement piece for a fun outdoor event. The other neat part about this gorgeous crown is that it ties in the back with ribbons for a very custom fit.

This lovely crown was made from hand dyed silk and linen to create the flowers. This crown reminds me of something that one of the girls from a Jane Austen novel might wear to a ball.

For a simple bohemian look this halo headband is the way to go with its dainty flowers and twig-inspired wire. This halo is also customizable to fit your head to be sure that you're looking lovely all day long.

Have a great weekend!

Inspiration: Snowed In

Well, my darlings, Roy and I are snowed in at my house! We got two inches in the morning yesterday and last night it looked like a blizzard around midnight - I couldn't even see the street light at the end of the road! This morning everything was covered in at least a foot of snow. I shoveled for two hours and now my arms are like noodles, but Roy and I are going to go back out and see what magic shots we can find in the snow. There may also be a very large snowman involved.

Stay warm and save!

Inspiration: Reading

Source: via Mary on Pinterest

Good morning! Today is a nice day to snuggle up with a good book and some hot tea. We got hit with a snow storm this morning and all I want to do is curl up by the fire with a book.

Here's a neat idea for your day. My sewing skills are no where near this level of excellence, but this idea is really creative and excellently executed. Here's another quirky idea:

Photography: Instagram

Mary Veterano Photography

Instagram is a wonderful and fun way to share your photography with your friends, facebook, twitter, tumblr, and other forms of social networking that has blown up since its release and since I am getting my iPhone soon I thought I would use it with my iPod for a bit. Well, I'm a wee bit addicted.

I'm also a wee bit of a nerdy dork-pie. I uploaded this photo for a challenge on "shadows" and was elated to watch my photo jump to the popular page 4 times! It's my first day using the app. I think it could be great as another platform to get your name out there as a photographer. And it's fun to take pictures and put cool filters on them.

If you're an Instagram user, comment below so I can find your pictures! Or check out my stuff @mtheginger!

Design Crush: Paintings by Joana Rosa Braganca

I just stumbled on the wonderful work of Joana Rosa Braganca, and isn't it just dreamy? I would love to have one of these paintings hanging on my wall!

Interiors: Wall Collage

via on Pinterest

I've always been a fan of displaying my photographs, and wall collages have always drawn my eye. They create a statement for that room, and some are even ever-growing. I have a wall collage in my bedroom above my bed.

via on Pinterest

They serve as a way to remember, but they're also a form of art in the way that you display them. I particularly love the warm, cosy feeling the collage in the kitchen above gives. Some are neatly aligned in a perfect rectangle, like this one below in a giant wall frame.

via on Pinterest

They also don't need to be of several different images, but can create one image!

via on Pinterest

Framed pictures in a collage are beautiful, they create such a work of art on your wall that your guests will be commenting on for years to come. Frame your favorite works of art and arrange them in a collage, or frame your own pictures.

via on Pinterest

What I love the most about a collage is that it can go anywhere and take up any wall space, such as this collage done on a stairwell. Genius!

Do you have a wall collage in your home? How do you like to arrange yours?

Photography: Alaska

McKinley on a clear day, originally uploaded by mtheginger.

I just got Aperture 3 and to test it out I finally pulled out my Alaska pictures that needed to be edited! I'm pretty proud of some of the shots I got with my little point and shoot in the days before my beloved DSLR. This is a shot of Mt. Mckinley, Mt. Foraker, and Mt. Hunter that I captured from the Talkeetna beach after my family and I went river rafting down the river. Alaska is an absolutely fantastic place, if you ever get the chance to travel there - GO!

Have a great Sunday my lovelies! And welcome to new followers!

Friday Etsy Picks: Deer

Silver Deer Ring
{ via Sea of Bee }

This weeks Etsy picks are inspired by the herd of deer that live by my house. This gorgeous ring is definitely a statement piece that would serve as a conversation starter. This gorgeous ring has great detail and craftsmanship, as well. Absolutely stunning piece.

Deer Vinyl Wall Decal
{ via Kinky Wall }

One of the newly popular ways to decorate your home without hurting your walls is vinyl decals. These work great in all kinds of rooms, and decal designs range from simple to gorgeously intricate. These are a great idea for college dorms or apartment buildings where you have strict decorating rules.

This tote packs a lot of punch with its black and white design, especially with the regal deer. This would be a great bag for the summer to carry your books, phone, towel, and sunblock to the pool or beach.

Have a great weekend!

Fashion Trends: V-Day After Hours

via on Pinterest

What are you wearing in the after hours for Valentine's day? I've been eyeing this cute little number from Out Blush. At $36, it's decently priced as far as lingerie goes (oh pretty lace, why are you so expensive?). What I like so much about this is that it's a push-up bra - I need all of the help I can get with my itty bitty biddies haha.

Here's some other gorgeous pieces I wish I could wear:

DIY: Valentine's DIY Round Up

Here's my favorite finds on cute DIY projects for Valentine's Day! My favorite is the DIY bouquet - a plantable Valentine that you can give (or hopefully receive! hint hint, Roy) and plant yourself. It's packed with wildflowers that you can nurse along into a beautiful little garden. I think this idea is so sweet and romantic!

Valentine's Day Ideas

via on Pinterest

Valentine's Day is coming! I have an inspiration board up here for my ideas for food, activities, and gifts. I plan on making the heart banner above as a simple decoration. Roy and I are planning on a simple evening, we're going ice skating and then we're going to have some hot cocoa and I'll make dinner. We're not doing big presents since our anniversary is March 1st and my birthday is March 31st.

Heart Cutout Hot Cocoa

This is an easy way to spruce up your hot cocoa or coffee for Valentine's! Just use a small cookie cutter and large marshmallows, or use a food pen and a small knife.

I might make Roy this "I notice" photo notebook keychain. It's a really simple DIY project if you don't have much time to spare, or if you want to give your someone special something small and heartfelt.

Pinterest: A New Resource

Pinterest is a new social bookmarking site where you can "pin" your interests and "re-pin" others' interests that you like. Right now it's in private beta, and I'm sure you've noticed some other bloggers out there that are already using it. But you can get on the list for an invite when they open!

It's a wonderful resource for saving your ideas for home, weddings, parties, style, fashion, and much more! Until it's live you can also follow boards here.

Verizon iPhone :)

I waited so patiently, and now it all pays off because I just so happen to be eligible for an upgrade the day before I can pre-order my iPhone for Verizon :) Excuse me while I happy-dance!

Gifting + Receiving

This year I had a LOT of knitting to do for the holidays. It's a gift I love giving to people. I enjoy picking out the patterns, the yarn, and finally seeing the face of the receiver when they open what I've made for them.

Here's some of the presents I made for friends and family this year.

Of the gifts I received, the best one was the Kodak Brownie Starflex that Roy gave me! I adore it! The flash bulbs are rare, but I can still put film in it for daytime pictures. I've been practicing some TTV (through the viewfinder) Photography with it. I haven't made a "contraption" yet to block out extra light, but I am having a total blast with it!
